How did you know, during the Introduction to Theatre class, that acting would be your career path?
"I was finding that I was way more interested in this class than my other classes. Since it was an evening class meeting once a week, most of my classmates were just waiting to get out! But I was eating all the class content up, and I would be completing all the extra credit offered and doing well on all the tests. Although I started performing on stage when I was six, the class reminded me how much I loved it. At the end of the semester, I formally changed my degree to BFA in Performance Arts." Did you find it hard to go back to acting after having your son? "Very much so. The interesting part of acting is that you don’t have many people telling you it’s a good idea to pursue a career in it. You have to have the self-confidence to push yourself to get back into the business, as well as keeping yourself motivated to grind it out. How do you juggle being a wife, a mother, and an actor? "I’m a swim teacher on top of it all! It does get hard and overwhelming, but it’s also really rewarding. I enjoy having a non-traditional schedule. I have a lot of control over how I spend my days. I like a sense of adventure, and having a traditional 9-5 schedule is not for me." |
