One of our crew members, Mohammed, was asked how he felt the experience was going to be before trying sushi, only to be answered with, “I’m probably going to vomit, and I know that. I’m sure you see my hands shaking. But yeah, and uh I’m seeing that the problem is neither the restaurant nor the food, the problem is me and I know that.” Mohammed, the most open to the challenge of trying sushi, spoke about how the challengers were scared to fully go through with this sushi experiment. “I don’t want to try the ginger and I’m being forced to try the ginger,” he said as he grabbed the small piece and ate, or in a more accurate choice of words, swallowed. Bayan also tried the sweet-sour ginger saying: “Is it spicy? Is it pickles? Is there a fork?” She looked so nervous to even try a small piece of ginger. After trying the sweet-sour ginger, Bayan simply said: “It is not that bad at all! Nothing scary so far!” with Mohammed chiming in: “It’s sour.” |

When Smaher tried eel sushi, she was alarmed by the unfamiliar taste and immediately stood up to run to the bathroom. As she chewed on the eel sushi, she was clearly uncomfortable and did not enjoy the foreign textures of the food. But, only thing she liked was wasabi. After coming back from the bathroom, she kept carrying a small piece of wasabi into her mouth, and it was so funny because it looked like she was washing her mouth with wasabi. |
