Gram-Worthy Art: Happy Place

I am a happy person. Depending on whom I am with. Sometimes, I get it into bad moods where I flip out and throw temper tantrums. The other day I was outside, listening to music, and my brother came and touched my shoulder, I started yelling at him and getting stressed out for no reason. He just walked away and ignored me. When I get stressed out, I search for things to do to make me happy.  Searching on Instagram, I found pictures from Happy Place.  After seeing the happiness that it brought other people, I thought, “Why not go and see if this works for me?”

Located in DTLA, Happy Place is inside the LA Live entertainment complex in a bright yellow building. You have to make reservations online, and depending on the size of your group, it can take up to 2 weeks to reserve your tickets. Get your cameras ready, because you are going to be taking lots of pictures.

This empty space was transformed by the owners into interactive and Instagram-worthy art installations that grab the attention of its visitors. The bright lights and the colorful rooms create a place for people to get lost in for an hour or so. From the moment you step into the yellow building, you are in for the happiest hour of your life.

“Stand over there.” “Flip your hair.” “1,2,3!” “I LOVE THIS ROOM!” These are some of the comments you will hear from the people around you as they laugh and take photos posing with their friends.

From the “DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY” sign to the “Did We Just Become Friends?” sign,  I still remember each room experience from the beginning to end. Seven rooms are filled with a different theme. The “XO” lip print room, “Happy Birthday” room, pot of gold with its 25,000-plus smiley face foam coins, gumball room, marigold flower room, rubber ducky bathtub, etc are the different rooms you get to experience. My favorite room was the XO room, because it was the room you could take the most photos in, and they all end up coming out cute.

Leaving with a camera roll filled with incredible pictures and a smile on your face is exactly the experience you will have. I was so happy that I took the time to go an visit such an incredible place that when I got home I even called my brother and apologized to him for over-reacting.  If it made me happier from my grumpy mood, it will probably make you happy too!
