If you’ve ever been to Burbank’s Tony’s Darts Away on a Friday night, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Noah Sonkin and his girlfriend, Heidi Mendel. I met them while playing billiards at Tony’s last Friday. I spoke with Noah about his life as a 25 year old professional accountant in Burbank.  He lives in the Magnolia Park section of Burbank, and has a soft-spoken and humble personality.

How long have you lived in Burbank?
I’ve lived in Burbank since I was 22 years old. Before moving to Burbank, I lived in Encino with my parents while I attended UCLA.

What do locals know that tourists don’t?
Burbank is not known well as a place for people in my age group. But it deserves a better reputation because this small city is actually a great place for people of any age range. There are plenty of small pubs and bars to go to for anyone who enjoys going out to enjoy nightlife. I come to Tony’s almost every Friday, but I also like Barney’s Beanery and The Office Bar & Grill.

Do you have any advice for people who are thinking about moving to Burbank?
Burbank has a different state of mind and lifestyle than most of the other areas in Los Angeles, and it can take some getting used to. The majority of the areas in the city are quiet streets. The shopping, movies, and restaurants are located mostly on the outskirts. If you begin to find that Burbank is not right after moving in, you should be patient. Over time you will begin to appreciate the lifestyle, culture, and frame of mind.

What are your favorite destinations in Burbank?
Definitely Osaka Teriyaki and Tequilas Mexican Restaurant. There’s a small teriyaki restaurant on Alameda and Victory called Osaka Teriyaki. It does not look like much but trust me it is the best teriyaki bowl you will ever have. At Tequilas, you will find by far the best Mexican Food in Burbank, but be prepared to wait for your food!
