Top 5 Disc Golf Courses
in the Valley

Written by Brandin Babin
Looking for a different decent workout? Try Frisbee golf. This isn't a new thing, it has been around for about 30 years, but in the past few years it has expanded to become a worldwide sport. They don't use the same type of Frisbee that you would use at the beach, but don't be intimidated. Frisbee golf is a lot of fun and even better with friends.

This is a small 9 hole course that is fun to play, especially for beginners because the holes aren’t very long. The course is located on the pitch and putt in the Burbank Hills below the larger ball golf course. You can also play alongside ball golfers here. It cost $3 to play all day so is great for a weekend game.

4. Chavez Ridge

This course is located next to Dodger Stadium in the hills of Elysian Park. There is a saying amongst the local disc golfers, “you just got CHAVEZED!” That means that your disc just went down one of the many hills. This course is not the best for beginners because of the hills, but the challenge makes for the experience. This course is free to play at and also a good hike if you’re looking for exercise.

3. Verdugo Hills

This course is located on a ball golf course and is a lot of fun. It has a small club house that makes pretty good burgers and has a small bar if you’re looking for a bite to eat with all the exercise. This course is a little more rough for beginners because it has some hills that can really ruin your day, or make for a fun and challenging experience. The best feature this course has is you can play side by side with someone that plays normal golf as you play disc golf.

2. Sylmar

This disc golf course is located on the southern part of Veterans Park. This 18-hole course is also very beginner friendly, but has a lot of trees that are right in the fairway. This leads to even some experienced players having occasional troubles on some holes. This course cost $2 to play and  is worth the money because the cost goes to the upkeep of the park. Bonus:  it is also a pretty good hike walking from hole to hole!

1. Oak Grove

Oak Grove is the first ever Disc Golf course in the world and it is located in La Canada, CA. The course is really nice because it gives you a little feel of everything: open grass fields, forest, and desert style holes. It is an easy course for beginners, besides some holes that are there intentionally for the more experienced players. It is also free to play here.
