Top 5 Local Hot Dogs

by Abdulaziz Alrumayyan and Mansour Akeel
Originating in Germany, the hot dog was called “wiener-frankfurter” and was made of specially selected meat trimmings of beef and/or pork. The name "hot dog" can be traced to German immigrants in the 1800s; these immigrants brought not only sausages to America, but actual dachshund dogs. The name most likely began as a joke about the Germans' small, long, thin dogs. However, these places are no joke: they offer the best tasting dogs in the whole of Los Angeles.

1. Lamb with Mediterranean Spices- Wurstküche

Picture
800 E 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90013
This place has the best hot dogs in L.A.! Rarely can you go to Wurstküche and not find a long line outside of the restaurant. I ordered the Lamb with Mediterranean Spices as well as a mix of two peppers, and grilled onions. When ordering, don’t forget to request their famous chipotle sauce; it’s one of the best sauces I have ever tried. The taste of this hot dog is indescribable. After taking a bite into this hot dog, you will be completely blown away by the results. This hot dog is not similar to the typical dog, but I promise you that you will never be disappointed with the result of any of their items. There are many hot dogs, but none can compare to this piece of meaty goodness!

2. The Ozzy Spicy Dog – Pink’s Hot Dogs

You can’t really do wrong by going to Pink’s Hot Dogs, as it is one of the top spots in L.A.! It began operations 77 years ago, and the restaurant stays true to its roots by maintaining its vintage style. The last time I was there, I was in  line for a good 15 minutes, and that is considered a short wait there. However, they do have a very open schedule from 10am to 2am daily. The Ozzy spicy dog is a mix of cheese, grilled onions, and avocado which gives you a blend of great tastes.another sentence or two about the hot dog?

3. Sooo Cali-Dog Haus

The best thing I liked about this place is the Chicago hot dog. It’s a ¼-pound Vienna sausage with mustard, neon-green relish, onions, tomato wedges, a pickle spear, and a sweet sprinkling of celery salt all on a poppy seed bun. Put it first on the list if you plan to visit after a long day of class; it’s a great hot dog sandwich that is needed after coming back from school. It tastes like a classic, original hot dog.

What makes Link N Hops a great hotdog place is its gastropub vibe. You can create your own hotdog sandwich, by choosing from more than 15 kinds of hotdogs. My favorite meal from there is the Lamb Marquez, because it’s a mix of lamb and beef with additional spices. You can then customize your  own hotdog sandwich by adding two toppings: chose sautéed onions and cheddar cheese. I love the taste and smell of this hotdog; it tastes like a homemade hot dog sandwich.

Whether it's Dog Haus, Link N Hop, Vicious Dogs, Pink’s hot dogs or Wurstküche, we found that each place has a different way of making their own delicious dog. We recommend trying all these places, just not all at once as your stomach might not thank you.
