Did you always want to work in media? If not, what was your dream job when you were younger?

No, I graduated in International Studies with a set career in practicing law. However, while in university, I was able to explore the art of blogging when I was searching for a creative outlet. Having had a set plan for my future didn’t fulfill my cravings of “having fun”. My daily routine consisted of doing work, writing papers, taking internships, growing a network, but I never sat down and did something for fun. I wasn’t able to fit my passions into my path. If I did, I was told left and right how I was just wasting my time.

Blogging allowed me to breathe.

“This gig was probably the best and worst job I ever had.”

What was the most valuable lesson you learned from the worst job you ever had, and what was that job?

When I was freelancing as a content creator in the fashion industry, I stumbled across the opportunity to work side-by-side with Designer Fashion Influencer, Tania Sarin. This gig was probably the best and worst job I ever had. I learned the ins and outs of what the high fashion industry was like. I was able to understand how social media influencing actually worked and what the campaign creative process was like. I also had the amazing opportunity to work with Cindy Crawford at a getaway villa in Malibu for a weekend. But, everything was too good to be true. That industry is full of hypocritical, entitled women who believe that everyone below them should be working at their whim. Of course, not everyone, but the vast majority of influencers I was exposed to all talked bad about the girl they had just hugged and kissed twice on the cheek. It wasn’t professional and it wasn’t genuine. Tania and I parted ways for unprofessional reasons on her end, but I left realizing what value I carried as a creative.

What is your greatest strength in your role as an editor?

“I am able to bring a team together and execute a collaborative vision into a product.”

What do you consider to be your first “big break” in your career?

Having been in contact with Tania and Cindy were the biggest moments of my life. It’s not just about having met them, but rather building a network around the people who know them and who they associate with. Knowing them has allowed me to not just be a creative, but to have some leverage when working with others.

What do you get most distracted by at work?

Social media is probably one of the biggest distractions throughout my day. I tell myself to check online and engage for 10 mins, but that turns into a deep web of liking, searching, communicating, and networking with people I follow and / or brands I want to work with. Yes, it’s still a job I have to do in my day, but I can’t spend hours on it. This is why, I have to time block my “engagement” period.

What two or three books would you say have had the biggest impact on who you are today?

Way of the Peaceful Warrior and The Great Gatsby

What is your greatest challenge?

In this day and age where everyone is working in media, I find it challenging to work with creatives who are creating their art for the sake of producing great work instead of for the money.

What’s your go-to method for winding down after a long day?

I work a 9-5 so when I get home, I schedule out 30 mins to an hour of sleep so I can gather up my energy to work 6+ hours on the magazine.

What’s the best part of your day?

I love, love, love, engaging with people online. Every day is different for me, but having the ability to actually talk to people who follow myself and my business is amazing. I love networking and building relationships.

What is the one skill you wished you’d learned before becoming an editor?

Business management. Wearing multiple hats in a business gets really overwhelming and unorganized when I need to do more than one task

How would you describe your job in five words?
Inspiring. Passionate. Never a routine.
